Ruth's Blog
Welcome to the renovated Yoga Props website!

I am Ruth, co-
founder and co-owner of Yoga Props .   Kay and I have been making and selling yoga practice equipment since 1979.  We both still practice yoga every day.

In addition to practicing yoga, I love gardening and photography.
I also read a lot and write poetry.   I will enjoy sharing from the quotations I have been collecting for over 30 years.

"Action is movement with intelligence. The world is filled with movement. What the world needs is more conscious movement, more action,” Iyegar wrote in Light on Life."      BKS Iyengar, Light On Lifer

Don't move the way fear makes you move. Move the way love makes you move. Move the way joy makes you move.       ~ Osho

"Yoga is a powerful vehicle for change. As you build strength, you start to believe in your own potential. "     Tiffany Cruikshank
July 30, 2014 ... Thanks to Rushing Water Yoga for this post:

"Attention is the beginning of devotion" When I walk out into the world, I take no thoughts with me. That's not easy, but you can learn to do it. An empty mind is hungry, so you look at everything longer, and closer. Don't hum! When you listen with empty ears, you hear more. And this is the core of the secret: Attention is the beginning of devotion.
- Mary Oliver

... what a great sentiment from poet Mary Oliver - is she an Iyengar yogi too?

"The problem is all inside your head ... the answer is easy if you treat it logically ... I want to help you in your struggle to be free."

love without truth
isn't love

truth without love
isn't truth

where they coincide
is laughter

among the pious
is much love.
are they laughing?
no, they're singing

among the existentialists
is much truth.
are they laughing?
no, they're pulling their
grey collars close around
their skinny necks

on the mountains the zen monks
leap into the air
& click their heels.
their laughter rings
over the valley

there is no laziness
in truth or love.
without effort
they exert attention
to the lowly &
the high

attention takes the shape
of whatever stands before it
becoming truth
becoming love

becoming an inhabited

across my spindly tomato
in his plastic pot
drape powdery beaded strands
the aftermath
of oak sex

my petunia folds her red flower
into a browning memory
while her new bud

i'm hungry
what's for

"It is true that two wrongs don't make a right, as we love to point out to the people we have wronged.  But one wrong doesn't make a right, either."    ~ James Baldwin
